Northern Munch

I’m thinking of organising a Northern (ish) munch. It will be just that - a munch, where we can put faces to names and do the social thing, have a few drinks and a bar meal. If there is enough interest, we could think about a northern play party for a later date, for those of us unable to travel to the decadent delights of Dover.

So, I’m proposing either Fri 23 April or Saturday 24 April. I’m aware some people can only make Monday to Friday while others can only do weekends – so we won’t be able to please everyone unfortunately. However, we could stagger the time from afternoon through to evening which would give people who can’t wangle time off work to come along later.

I do have a venue in mind in North Sheffield/Barnsley. It’s a large hotel/restaurant with a big bar, and a conservatory at one end where we could congregate and hopefully have a bit of privacy. Its very easy to find off the M1. Or a taxi from Sheffield station would be about £9. Should anyone want to stay overnight, there are lots of rooms, though the tariff is a bit expensive – but there’s also a travel inn half a mile away which is much cheaper at £46.

If anyone is interested, can you let me know your thoughts please.

Sounds a good idea to me, either day is possible if I'm given enough notice. But if it had been a fortnight earlier, we'd have a real Easter Bunny there. :)

Its about time we raised the flag in Yorkshire and the North Mids- and what better day than St Georges Day. Personally I would prefer Friday 23rd as weekends are difficult for me. It may even be possible to stagger it over two days if there is enough interest which would be great - after all it looks to be a nice venue for a bit of a break/socialising. Keep us posted

Good to see that people are trying to get meets organised - would be nice if we could get to the stage of having thriving meets in various regions throughout the country.

Would love to come to this but the Saturday whilst not normally a problem clashes with a potential cup final for the kids team I coach. However, please keep me informed just in case we don't make it to the final or you decide on the Friday LOL

Thanks for all the responses so far, which indicate 4 people who prefer Friday 23/4; 6 people who prefer Sat 24/4; and 5 people who can make either date.

So we will go with the majority and settle for the Saturday. This is a right pain in the neck for lancs, MoB, Fabrizio and Lord Benbow! I'm really sorry - but I do hope you might be able to shuffle things around so as to be able to attend on the Saturday after all; it would be lovely to meet you.

If everyone turns up we will have Roddy, Prefect, Agean, Bravelady, Merry, Keith, Martinet, Philip, bbg, whiterose and myself; plus possibly Nottsman and alexr. I'll pm you all with details of venue and time.
