    Word In A Sentence

I thought it might be fun to have a new game for the New Year

    1. The object of the game is to incorporate a word in a sentence.
    2. The sentence must incorporate the nominated word AND provide a word for the next sentence.
    3. It must be a word that can be found in the dictionary or is in such common usage that it is generally recognised as a word. (consensus of players to determine)
    4. We want a sentence not a novel, so within reason, as brief as possible.
    5. The sentence must make sense, that is, not just random words with a full stop on the end.
    6. If a player provides a word that no one can incorporate in a sentence and it is a proper word, that player claims "Bragging Rights" and gives us a new starter word.

Have fun! To start us off fractious

She was both fractious and caustic and upset everyone.

So the next player must incorporate caustic

You wouldn't expect such ribald remarks from a mayoress, but that's what a litre of Lambrusco will do on an empty stomach.

His pusillanimous reply was both evocative and evasive , such didactic gymnastics were second nature to him .

It was a didactic manner in which he indulged in floccinaucinihilipilification.

Those using words such as floccinaucinihilipilification are in danger of being considered sesquipedalian.

Although she had raised a salient point, her interlocutor's floccinaucinihilipilification rendered the dialogue nugatory.

@HenryIX, unless my post #14 was somehow wrong, I think the word you need to incorporate is sesquipedalian, William.

You are right, kristabelle. How could you be wrong about the rules of your own thread?

If it matters at this stage, I was sandbagged by my steam-driven PC and/or by the costive software. When I pressed Post Quick [sic] Reply, the latest post showing was no. 13. Nevertheless, your post then appeared in the huge gap. Grrr. Sorry to mess up your thread.

The incorporation of sesquipedalian in an otherwise unremarkable sentence betokens a certain individuality.

@HenryIX, I am wrong more often than I like. It was not about rules in this case, it was about the order of posts and I know that can cause us all difficulties. You certainly don't mess up my, or any other thread, Wiliam. You help make them fun.

Look forward to you next post on this thread!

@HenryIX; You sailed precariously close to a tautology with that one, William.

In the Mid-19th Century, being an actress was regarded as close to prostitution, thus, in order not to sully her name she took to prestidigitation.

    @kristabelle: Yes, I know; but I think I steered clear, don't you?

Prestidigitation is a time-honoured way to bamboozle a credulous audience.
