Worzel has promised me that he will read Rudyard Kiplings 'Elephant Child' story to me while at Whitby.
It will be in the play cottage lounge at some point so any other people that want to listen in on story time may do so.

Worzel is the greatest!!!!

I will sit on the gg sofa.

If Worzel lets me...

The only sofa you're likely to see is not a gg one, but the one you'll be bent over, carpet watching! :

Unfortunately the taking of pictures/videos inside the cottages is not really allowed and outside in the courtyard photos can only be taken if everyone is aware that pictures are being taken. Please respect that some don't want to be in photos taken by people they don't know that well.

Yes I know you were only joking saffy, but I thought this a good time to mention it.

The only video piccies i take are of the sheepies and the fierce chickens, unless someone expressly wants to be in the same shot as the sheepies - from there you cant see the cottages anyway, other than one anonymous wall.

I’ll take my camera but for the landscapes only.

An irritating person kept taking pictures on The Boat last year – we apprehended him (actually quite easy on a boat LOL). His choice was easy, erase the memory card or a watery end for him and the camera awaited. He chose wisely!

I am parked up on my travels waiting for a friend to return from London and inspecting hazel trees. Some careful pruning to be done, tootle pip

Have sent the directions to a couple of folks I know need them. Please pm me before Thursday if you need directions and/or a contact number.

Just another reminder, please don't arrive before 4pm as there wont be anyone there and you wont be able to get into any of the cottages, ta.

Hope you all have a fab time, although that goes without saying really.

Looks like the weather is going to be kind to you too, dry with nice mild temperatures going up to 9°C on Sunday afternoon.

Suspect there will be some outdoor play!

Vodafone Mobile at Whitby - 09-03-2010, 13:26

Has Whitby got good mobile coverage – I hate mobiles and keep them on silent but have a relative who is not well so need to get a SIM card if Vodafone is poor and another network is OK? I also use 3G for web access

I never trust coverage maps and I’m guessing Whitby regulars will know.

No, coverage is not brilliant, although I use a different network.

As smarty said, it's a bit "iffy". you may have to go for a walk away from the cottages to get a signal.

I have never had a problem with O2 coverage though.

Many thanks – the Irish Vodafone will be on roaming and attach to other network providers whereas the UK Vodafone SIM will be locked to the domestic network, they only free up when roaming unless you have a suitable contract.

I’ll get an O2 pre-loaded SIM for the visit - thanks again

Spare Bed At Whitby. - 10-03-2010, 15:56

Unfortunately, minx_who_me is unable to make it to Whitby so there is a spare single bed going. There may be two!

As I have paid for both beds, if anyone want's to negotiate for one, please let me know else minx says she will give me her £90.

I realise it's a bit late in the day but you never know.

Tillymint and I are having to pull out of this trip too, I'm afraid. One of our dogs has contracted a symptomless (in him) pathogen, so the kennels we booked them into won't accept them and we're having to stay home with them. If anybody wants to go, please PM oykie.

My toy bag is almost packed! Holding sheep isnt packed cos it needs air and lives on the settee.

I was thinking, once i buy my new sharp knife, if one of the Toply sorts might allow me to use a strap they may have, to sharpen the blade further?

No need to offer specifically; if i see a strap laying about, i'll assume it was left out for me to borrow.

Hurrah! Nearly time!

I have a leather strap and crocus powder that is superb for carving chisels if that helps?

But don’t forget your pruning implements!!

I’ll bring the stones for the grinding and welsh slate block for the honing, the strop and crocus powder is used to give the final edge – this was reliably used for surgical instruments for a long time! I thought it was an old wives tale until I spotted it in an exhibit in the medical section (up in the top of the building to the right) of the science museum a few years ago.

It was brought to my attention that someone in chat last night was talking about the location of where we are going. Please don't as we don't want just anyone turning up, if anyone wants to visit during the day, then it has to go through me, please don't say 'oh it'll be alright' 'cos it wont.

I may not be able to check pms or here as I am driving up half way today, so safe journeys everyone, don't turn up before 4pm or you will be left out in the cold. Looking forward to seeing you all.

Nobody is perfect.........I am nobody therefore I
am perfect.

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one.

The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

What bad luck. I was looking forward to catching up with you both.

Could have been me! I did mention in chat that I was going to Whitby tomorrow but I really thought that was quite ok. As far as invites are concerned, I have arranged to meet someone for a pint in a certain hotel close to "where we are going", but that's about it. Apologies if that's what you mean.
